On this Eco Volta tour, conquer the heights of Mount Afadjato (the highest mountain in West Africa), view the verdant terrain below and swim in sparkling waters as you behold the breathtaking Wli Waterfall cascading from above. Visit the most noted rainforest in West Africa, Kakum National Park, and experience the spectacular views of the rainforest as you cross the 100 foot high canopy walkway (one of only five of its kind in the world). The park is a prime location to view birds such as the African Hornbill, and in 1993 a butterfly species unseen anywhere else in the world was discovered in the park. Ghana's many ethnic groups celebrate more than 60 festivals each year. At any given time, you find from two to twelve festivals taking place in a month. This tour features two of Ghana' s most popular events, the Bakatue Festival and the Akwasidae Festival. “Bakatue” means the opening up of the Benya Lagoon into the sea. A solemn casting of the net symbolizes the beginning of a new fishing season and is celebrated annually by the people of Elmina. The highlight of the Bakatue festival is the regatta boat race. The Adae and Akwasidae festivals feature the pomp and pageantry of the Ashanti Kingdom and take place every six weeks at the King’s palace. You will witness the King adorned in gold ornament, riding high in a Palanquin carried by his subjects as he comes out to receive the homage of his sub-Chiefs and his people.

The exciting Northern Eco Adventure Tour is the perfect tour for the adventurous animal lover. It takes you the length of the country, passing through the town of Kintampo which is located at the very center of Ghana. You will visit Kumasi, Ghana’s second largest city and seat of the Ashanti Empire. The regal history of the Ashanti’s dates back to 1700 and is told with relics and artifacts. At Mole you will see elephants up close and personal, and later, in the nearby village of Larabanga, view the oldest mosque in Ghana.  The mosque is the only structure in Ghana with Sudanic architecture.  At the outskirts of the village is the mystery Larabanga Stone. In addition to the Panafest festivities, this tour will take you on an emotional journey to the Northern Region of Ghana, where a special atonement ceremony will be held for the group. The ceremony, set in Salaga (a town used as a major slave market during the slave trade) is a truly moving experience.  Atonement will be sealed by villagers washing the feet of slave descendants as an act of humility and a plea for forgiveness. This ceremony, designed by the villagers themselves, is a symbolic apology for the acts of their ancestors.

We invite you to join us here in Ghana as we celebrate Black History Month this year!  This annual observance takes place each February and highlights the positive contributions made by Africans and people of African descent everywhere. By tracing the history of Africans on the continent and in the Diaspora, Black History Month promotes African arts and culture while heightening the confidence and awareness of Black people everywhere.

Come join us as we celebrate Ghana’s Independence Day. These festivities take place during the first week in March, and feature the annual Independence Day Parade held at Black Star Square, replete with live music and entertainment by the Ghanaian military band. On this tour there will also be visits to Ghana’s infamous slave castles, Kakum National Park and a visit to the Ashanti Kingdom.

We invite you to participate in the Emancipation celebration dedicated to the descendants of the slave trade, held each year in the months of June and July.  This is a cultural event that commemorates the announcement of the abolition of slavery and acknowledges the challenges and triumphs of the slave descendants in the new world. On this tour, you will walk through the “Door of No Return”, trace former slave routes and visit Salaga, one of the most important slave trading centers in West Africa. You will also learn how slavery contributed to the development of the Ashanti Empire as you visit and meet the people of the Ashanti region, who themselves were major slave traders.
